Hydrogen fuel generators have gained in popularity, especially among those who want to use them in trucks and cars. There are some good reasons for this high popularity including the fact that they help to improve your mileage and they make the engine work more efficiently and at the same time, they do not emit any great amount of harmful gases or carbon emissions either.

Hydrogen fuel – different names

Hydrogen fuel generators are also known as hydrogen boosting technology, hydrogen injection as well as hydrogen additive technology. However, regardless of what name you give them, they will each work in a like manner.

Increased power

Hydrogen fuel generators are used mainly because they make use of electricity which is provided by the vehicle. This electricity is used for electrolyzing a tiny amount of water and the hydrogen so obtained will then need to be injected along with gas (oxygen) into the intake system of the vehicle. Together, the oxygen and hydrogen will take the place of part of the fossil fuels in the vehicle's cylinders and will also assist the main fuel in burning with greater efficiency. The result is increased power as well as reduction in pollutants.

Controversial subject

At present, hydrogen fuel generators are the subject of much debate and controversy. Critics of such generators say that these devices do not work and even if they do work, then they do not work as is advertised. Before taking a call on hydrogen fuel generators, it makes sense to understand a little bit more about how they work.

Basically, these generators are radically different to hydrogen fuel cells. In the fuel cell, the hydrogen is pressurized and then the compressed gas will be stored in the vehicle before it can be used to create electricity. Hydrogen fuel generators, on the other hand, are actually used to help make an internal combustion engine work more cleanly and are transformed into hydrogen driven engine.

Hydrogen fuel generators are mechanisms that are placed onboard the vehicle that has the task of harvesting hydrogen from H2O and then the hydrogen needs to be fed into the engine where it will be burnt.

Hydrogen fuel generators work on the principal of electrolysis. Passing electricity through water will cause the water to be broken into its main parts which of course are two atoms of hydrogen and a single oxygen atom. The engine is hooked to the generator and will create a vacuum which will extract the hydrogen which is then made to fuel up the internal combustion engine which then drives the engine in a manner that is exactly like in the case of an engine that is being powered by gasoline.

At present, hydrogen fuel generators cannot match the power produced by gasoline driven engines. To overcome this, vehicles are being designed to use part hydrogen and part gasoline. However, by adding hydrogen fuel generators, it is possible to save up to forty-five percent of fuel consumption and if new technologies prove to be effective, hydrogen powered vehicles can cut the fuel consumption by up to sixty-five percent.
